The Self-Taught Director: How Nisarg Patel Built Covixy from a Laptop

At just 19, Nisarg Patel started freelancing with nothing more than a laptop and a willingness to learn. There was no funding, no mentor, and no detailed business plan waiting for him. He taught himself web and app development while taking on projects for anyone ready to trust a young developer. Those early years exposed him to the daily struggles of small and medium businesses across India. Many owners were still relying on manual work, while others had never even used Excel sheets. The experience convinced Nisarg that technology was only useful when it matched the way people actually ran their businesses. As he often says, "Meet people where they are, even if that means starting with the basics."

That belief became the foundation of Covixy io private limited, operating through Covixy. The company builds custom software and ERP systems designed around each business instead of forcing clients into fixed products. Its work is especially well known in the cold storage sector, where compliance and government subsidy requirements leave little room for mistakes. Covixy has delivered India's first government compliant cold storage management software to more than 15 businesses, alongside over five customized ERP systems and more than 20 business websites. The company also runs an affordable program that provides 100 online presence packages every year for startups and small businesses, making digital growth easier for entrepreneurs with limited budgets. Nisarg believes, "Software shouldn't be a privilege only big businesses can afford or understand."

One client changed everything. A growing business wanted to sign a formal agreement with a private limited company instead of an individual freelancer. Rather than turning the opportunity away, Nisarg registered the company and built Covixy into a full time business. That decision came from trust earned through real work rather than outside investment.

Working with business owners who had little digital knowledge also changed how he dealt with clients. Writing code was never the hardest part. Building confidence after years of disappointing software experiences demanded patience, honest conversations, and careful guidance from the very first meeting until full adoption. Those lessons still shape the company's pricing, client onboarding, and daily work culture, where understanding people comes before measuring performance.

Today, Nisarg is proud of growing from a self taught freelancer into the director of a private limited company by the age of 22. His long term goal is simple: make custom business software available to companies of every size across India through both covixy.com and covixy.in. His advice to aspiring founders remains practical. Start with what you have, earn trust one project at a time, and let the work speak for itself.
