Ryan Roy Shah: Building Pune Pioneers Football Club to Develop India’s Next Generation of Players

Football has played a major role in shaping Ryan Roy Shah’s journey as an entrepreneur. From an early age, the sport taught him discipline, competitiveness, resilience and the value of taking responsibility for results. Over time, Ryan realised he did not simply want to participate in football. He wanted to build something around it.

That thought led to Pune Pioneers Football Club, an organisation created around a simple concern in Indian football. The country has immense football talent, but there remains a gap between that talent and the systems available to develop players consistently. Ryan wanted to create an environment where young footballers could train, compete, learn and grow through professional coaching, accountability and high daily standards.

Today, Pune Pioneers is being built as a professional football organisation focused on player development, competitive football and a residential academy model. The club works with young players and families who are serious about football and want more than regular training sessions. Coaching, physical development, education, competitive exposure and sporting discipline form part of the environment Ryan is trying to create.

Building such an organisation from the ground up has not been easy. Earning the trust of parents, players and coaches takes time, while building the right systems and culture requires patience. Ryan also learned that Indian football cannot always follow models created elsewhere. Some ideas have to be tested, changed and improved along the way.

A major step in his journey came through his work as a coach and obtaining the UEFA B coaching licence. It strengthened his belief in structured coaching, planning, analysis and accountability. His decision to build towards a residential academy also came from the same belief: player development extends beyond the few hours spent on a football ground.

For Ryan, success is not only about trophies or numbers. It is about seeing players who came through Pune Pioneers progress to higher levels. His long term ambition is to build one of India’s most professionally structured football academies and create opportunities for talented players from across the country.
