Rohit Agarwal: From Banking Leadership to Becoming the Author of The Fifth Biopsy

Rohit Agarwal has spent more than two decades building his career in banking and financial services, while also finding space to pursue an entirely different passion, writing. His professional journey began with ICICI Bank in 2004, where he learned customer relationships, business development and branch operations. In 2009, he joined Kotak Mahindra Bank, taking on larger responsibilities across business, customers and teams.

For Rohit, entrepreneurship is not limited to starting a company. His years of working closely with entrepreneurs and businesses shaped an entrepreneurial mindset based on taking ownership, creating opportunities, solving problems and finding better ways to work. His career at Kotak Mahindra Bank took him through positions including Branch Head, AVP, Vice President and Senior Vice President, giving him experience in banking leadership, business development and customer management.

The early years came with their share of pressure. Managing targets, customer expectations, teams and operational responsibilities taught him that career growth takes consistency, discipline and a willingness to keep learning. His move from ICICI Bank to Kotak Mahindra Bank became one of the important changes in his career. Pursuing management education at IIM Kolkata added another dimension to his professional development.

Rohit's journey took an unexpected turn when he decided to become an author. His thriller, The Fifth Biopsy, came from his interest in mysteries, investigations and stories where the truth is not immediately visible. Writing while handling a demanding banking career was difficult. Creating suspense, connecting the plot and repeatedly editing the manuscript required patience and time.

Writing the book also taught Rohit that creativity needs discipline. He had to create time for writing, accept revisions and keep working even when the first version did not feel complete. For him, banking and writing may seem like very different worlds, but both have taught him persistence.

Today, Rohit continues with banking leadership, customer relationships and people management while developing his work as an author. His message to young professionals is simple: keep learning, stay disciplined, take calculated risks and build genuine relationships. His own career shows that a professional journey can take unexpected turns, and new interests can begin at any stage.
