Building Trust, Preserving Tradition: The Entrepreneurial Journey of Vijay Bhatt

When Vijay Bhatt started Maangal in 2011, his intention was never limited to creating another matrimonial company. He had spent years observing how families from Uttarakhand searched for suitable life partners through personal contacts, relatives and community circles. As more people settled in different cities and countries, those traditional connections became harder to maintain. Vijay saw that distance was slowly making an age old tradition more difficult, and he believed technology could help families stay connected without losing their cultural identity. "Entrepreneurship begins with observation," he says, a belief that has stayed with him since the beginning of his journey.

Raised in Uttarakhand, Vijay grew up noticing small but common problems around him. He often wondered why simple challenges remained unanswered when people only needed the right place to connect. That curiosity slowly became the reason he stepped into business. He enjoyed building ideas instead of simply following existing ones. For him, every business starts with one question. How can it make everyday life a little easier while respecting the values people care about?

The early days were far from easy. Convincing families to trust an online matrimonial service was the biggest hurdle. Marriage carries emotions, traditions and family expectations, making people naturally cautious. Many questioned privacy, authenticity and whether a digital service could really understand such an important decision. Internet access was still growing across many regions, which made the task even harder. Vijay and his team spent countless hours guiding families personally, checking profiles carefully and answering every concern with patience. Growth came slowly, though each successful experience added another layer of trust.

That trust became the biggest reason behind the company's steady rise. Instead of depending on advertisements, Maangal expanded through recommendations. Families who found successful matches introduced relatives, neighbours and friends to the company. One happy marriage often led to several new registrations. The company's first major breakthrough arrived because people believed in what they experienced rather than what they were told.

As the business matured, Vijay noticed another challenge families faced while planning weddings. Finding photographers, decorators, makeup artists, venues and planners often became another stressful task. Rather than stopping at matchmaking, he expanded the business through Maangal Bazaar, bringing trusted wedding professionals together in one place. Later, Maangal Bazaar Magazine was introduced to give regional businesses and talented wedding professionals greater visibility among families searching for reliable services.

Today, Maangal serves Uttarakhandi families living across India as well as the global diaspora. Its work extends beyond helping two individuals meet. It also connects families with businesses that become part of their celebrations. From marriage registrations to wedding planning, the company has grown into a trusted name within the community while staying closely connected to its cultural roots. That balance between tradition and technology has helped Maangal remain relevant for more than a decade.

Inside the company, Vijay believes people work best when they understand the purpose behind their responsibilities. Every member of the team knows they are involved in one of the biggest decisions in someone's life. That awareness creates care, ownership and honest communication across the organisation. He prefers leading through actions instead of instructions, believing that people naturally adopt the values they witness every day.

Family has remained one of the strongest influences throughout his entrepreneurial journey. Running a business often brings uncertainty, long hours and difficult choices. During those periods, the encouragement of his close circle gave him the confidence to continue. They also reminded him that success should never change the reason he started. Building something useful for society has always mattered more than chasing numbers alone.

Among all his achievements, the ones closest to his heart are impossible to measure through awards. Every story of a couple finding each other through Maangal carries a personal sense of satisfaction. Seeing local photographers, planners, designers and wedding businesses receive new opportunities through Maangal Bazaar brings equal happiness. "Build relationships before revenue," Vijay says, advice that also sums up the philosophy behind everything he has created.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, his message is simple. Don't start a business because it seems fashionable. Start after finding a real problem that deserves attention. Business ownership demands patience, discipline and continuous learning. There will be periods when progress feels invisible, though consistency often makes the difference. Vijay believes trust remains the strongest asset any business can earn. Markets change, technology changes and customer habits change, yet integrity never goes out of style. That belief continues to shape his work as he helps connect families while preserving the traditions that matter to them.
