Building a Career Beyond the Conventional Path: The Story of Siddharth Shirodkar

Siddharth Shirodkar’s professional journey has never followed a conventional path.
He dropped out of college and entered business at an early age, eventually building a creative agency. He completed his graduation later in life, but by then he had already experienced entrepreneurship first-hand.
For Siddharth, these experiences reinforced an idea that continues to influence his work today: there can be different ways to reach the same goal, and a conventional career path is not the only route to building a professional life.
His journey into the stock market began almost by chance.
From Entrepreneur to Trader
As his creative agency moved towards remote working, Siddharth was often the only person working from his office. Two friends began using vacant desks there to trade during the day.
Curious about what they were doing, he started trading as well.
The beginning was far from smooth. Like many new traders, he made mistakes and lost a considerable amount of money. But rather than treating those losses as the end of the experiment, he decided to understand why they had happened.
That decision kept him in the markets.
Since 2011, he has spent years studying, observing and testing his approach to trading and investing. Much of that learning came through trial and error rather than following a predefined path.
An Unexpected Move Into Education
Teaching was not part of the original plan either.
During the COVID lockdown, Siddharth was trading from home and looking for ways to stay occupied. His wife, Priyanka, suggested that he conduct webinars. He agreed, and the response from attendees encouraged him to begin teaching professionally.
What was initially intended as a temporary activity eventually developed into The School of Dalal Street.
Today, Siddharth is a trader, investor, author and stock market coach. He has taught more than 1,200 students and continues to focus on practical stock market education.
From Business Experience to Financial Education
There is a common thread running through Siddharth’s different professional roles: learning through experience.
His creative agency taught him about running a business. The markets taught him about trading and investing. Teaching showed him how to break down complex subjects for people with no financial background.
That last part has become particularly important to his work.
Siddharth considers teaching beginners one of his specialties. Rather than relying heavily on financial jargon, he breaks complicated concepts into smaller ideas and uses stories and everyday examples to explain them.
His approach also places considerable emphasis on practical learning. Students practise through paper trading and learn risk management alongside the concepts they are studying.
Building The School of Dalal Street
The School of Dalal Street was built around this practical approach to financial education.
Siddharth describes himself as a guide rather than someone who has all the answers. In his words, the stock market itself is the real teacher.
That philosophy reflects his own experience. He did not learn the market through a single course or a straightforward formula. It took years of observation, experimentation, mistakes and refinement to develop the system he uses today.
His professional journey has therefore moved through several seemingly different worlds: creative entrepreneurship, trading, investing, writing and education.
But there is a consistent theme connecting them.
He has continued to build his career by learning through experience and then applying that experience in a new context.
Today, through The School of Dalal Street and his work as an author and educator, his focus is on bringing practical stock market knowledge to people who genuinely want to learn.
For Siddharth, building a career has never been about following one predetermined route. It has been about finding a direction, learning along the way and being willing to change course when new opportunities emerge.
